National Express Bus wins Excellence in People Engagement & Development at the BQF Quality Awards

We’re proud to share that National Express Bus has been recognised for its people engagement and development at the British Quality Foundation (BQF) Quality Awards at Wembley Stadium. It was the only public transport company to win an award and was a finalist in five categories.

Our 4,000 drivers safely carry over 4 million passengers every week across the West Midlands. The judges praised how we combine bespoke training, supportive coaching, and proactive, data-driven intervention, raising the bar for safe driving and encouraging drivers to seek support before they need it.

L-R: Karen Leftley, President BQF; Laura Edge, Head of Training NX Bus; Toni Tipper Operations Director NX Bus; Lucy Whitehouse, Driver Development - Regional Team Leader; Russel Smith, Driver Development Team Leader; Tom McCarthy, Assistant Operations Manager.

Toni Tipper, Operations Director at National Express Bus, said: “In a recent LRQA safety audit, they stated that the risk profile was an excellent example of continuous improvement and demonstrated the hard work invested in it. Across the business, drivers will now regularly call the Driver Training Officer to discuss their current risk score and highlight areas for improvement.”

Laura Edge, Head of Training, added: “The programme had a clear positive effect on organisational culture, creating an environment where employees are empowered and supported to take ownership of their development and safety, fostering a sense of pride and accountability.”

Congratulations to our drivers, trainers and everyone involved.
